Huawei roadmap leaks with Ascend Mate 8 and Ascend D8 phablets

If the latest rumors are any indication, next year Huawei is gearing up to release several high-end smartphones, two of which could feature 2560 x 1440 pixel Quad HD screens. Just yesterday news of the Ascend P8 hinted at a sleek build using high-end materials, and now a new report suggests the arrival of two new phablets: the Ascend Mate 8 and Ascend D8.

A source tipped off PhoneArena to Huawei’s proposed roadmap for 2015. The table mentions a few key devices and a notable specification or two for each device. According to the document, the Ascend Mate 8 will probably get a 2560 x 1440 pixel screen this time around, as well as Huawei’s own, brand new Kirin 930 processor. The roadmap says it’ll debut in the fall for about $650.

A new Karbonn budget smartphone, the Titanium S12 Delite, has gone on sale in India via an e-commerce website, priced at Rs. 4,469.

The Karbonn Titanium S12 Delite is a dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) device and comes with dual standby. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box.

The Titanium S12 Delite features a 4.3-inch (480x800 pixels) TFT LCD display and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core (unspecified chipset) processor coupled with 512MB of RAM.

It comes with 4GB of inbuilt storage, which is further expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB). It sports a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, while there is a secondary 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera also onboard. On the connectivity front, the Titanium S12 Delite offers 3G, GPRS/ EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Micro-USB, and Bluetooth options.

Xiaomi And Shunwei Capital Make $300M Strategic Investment In iQiyi, One Of China’s Largest Online Video Platforms

Xiaomi, which announced earlier this month that it plans to invest $1 billion in online video content, has been very busy spending that money. The hardware maker confirmed today that it and Shunwei Capital have together made a $300 million strategic investment in iQiyi, the video platform that is majority-owned by Baidu, China’s largest search company. Xiaomi said that this is its largest investment to date. Baidu also said that it had increased its investment in iQiyi, though it did not specify the amount.

The investment follows Xiaomi’s strategic partnership earlier this month with Youku-Tudou, the value of which was undisclosed. Youku-Tudou says its monthly user base is now more than 500 million, with daily video views surpassing 800 million.
